Tomorrow, October 19, nine women taking part in Camp Aftermath’s Roto 9 will come together in person for the next phase of their program.
They have already begun getting to know one another through Phase 1: Screening & Suitability. Alongside individual screening conversations, our video teleconferences have helped build familiarity, discuss expectations and prepare for the residential experience.
From October 19 to 22, Phase 2 will bring that connection into everyday life. Through workshops, shared meals, reflection and structured volunteerism, participants will have opportunities to explore identity, purpose and belonging beyond service.
There is room for excitement, nerves and uncertainty as we prepare to meet. No one needs to arrive with everything figured out.
Our mental health professional team will be there to support participants throughout the retreat. Camp Aftermath is Veteran-led, peer-supported and clinically guided, and complements the care participants may already receive.
The retreat is one part of a longer commitment. Phase 3: Continuity & Accountability carries the work forward through regular connection, peer support and small, practical experiments in everyday life. Together, the three phases form an approximately year-long program.
We’re grateful to these nine women for the commitment they’ve already shown, and to our staff, volunteers, funders and partners for helping make this next step possible.
We’re grateful to True Patriot Love Foundation and the Legion National Foundation for their financial support, which helps make Roto 9 possible and allows participants to take part at no cost.
We look forward to welcoming everyone tomorrow.
