POUND For A Purpose

By April 26, 2018April 15th, 2024No Comments
On April 20, 2018, one of our volunteers traveled to Toronto to host our first fitness fundraiser. Kathleen witnessed the effects of exercise and physical activity when she traveled to Costa Rica and taught the children in the streets of La Carpio.
This year for her birthday celebration, instead of having a party, she wanted to teach a fitness class for her friends and family. She enthusiastically led a class of 20, and all proceeds went to Camp Aftermath in support of Roto 0.
Kathleen reflects on her experience:
I was aware of the positive effects of physical activity, and the therapeutic benefits of drumming, but what I wasn’t aware of …was the amount of sheer joy it brings to people when the two are combined. POUND is an activity where I felt anyone at any age, and any stage of their fitness level, was able to participate. On April 20, I saw just that. The class consisted of men and women between the ages of 3 and 67+ and everyone had a smile on their face. I was overjoyed to see the amount of energy the participants had, and humbled by the positive feedback I received. Motivated to continue exercising, and inspired by my desire to help others, many participants have expressed interest in taking part in more of these events in the near future. I’m looking forward to what’s to come, and hope to see you at my next event!
Smiles.
PS. Special thanks to all those who came out and we are grateful for your support. Thanks to you, we are THAT much closer to our goal.
